Wednesday, November 8: Journal 1: Read and respond to the “Preface” of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Introduce the novel, objectives, and study guide.  Read and annotate Book I.

 

Friday, November 10: Journal 2: “Architecture has recorded the great ideas of the human race. Not only every religious symbol, but every human thought has its page in that vast book.” -Victor Hugo. Discuss Book I and complete the study guide.  Read and annotate Books II-IV.

 

Wednesday, November 15: Journal 3: “Adversity makes men, and prosperity makes monsters.” -Victor Hugo. Discuss and complete the study guide for Books II-IV.  Read and annotate Books V-VI.

 

Friday, November 17: Journal 4: “Do you know what friendship is... it is to be brother and sister; two souls which touch without mingling, two fingers on one hand.”-Victor Hugo.  Discuss and complete the study guide for Books V-VI.  Read and annotate Book VII.

 

Tuesday, November 21: Journal 5: “Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.”-Victor Hugo.  Discuss and complete the study guide for Book VII.  Read and annotate Book VIII.

 

Monday, November 27: Journal 6: “What a grand thing, to be loved! What a grander thing still, to love!-Victor Hugo.  Discuss and complete the study guide for Book VIII.  Read and annotate Book IX.

 

Wednesday, November 29: Two-Hour Late; no journal.  Discuss and complete the study guide for Book IX.  Read and annotate Book X.

 

Friday, December 1: Discuss and complete the study guide for Book X.  Read and annotate Book XI.

 

Tuesday, December 5: Discuss and complete the study guide for Book XI.  Review for the test.

 

Thursday, December 7: Test!!!
