Hollow. While this Tim
Burton takes many liberties in his retelling of this popular tale by
Irving, he remains true to Irving’s basic theme: the increasing American
concern for property was destroying our spiritual power, and his style:
experimentation with Gothic tales, but in a humorous way, and gives
Americans an opportunity to laugh at ourselves which is important after an
era when we took everything so seriously and logically.
